August update – refurbs, focus groups and more!

We continue to make great progress with both interior and exterior refurbishment and are currently on track for a late Autumn launch. Aside from the refurbs, we’ve started holding our drinks selection focus groups and we’re also starting to look at developing online marketing material and social media, with the aim of launching our branded website (completely with bookings app etc) in September. 

Focus Groups

We have had so much support from individual investors and a number have come forward to help with our selection process or introduce us to organisations that are cutting edge and where there is an obviously synergy with our strategy and business plan.

Our aim is to source high quality, excellent value for money and locally grown/brewed food and drink where possible…

Beer 

Thank you to all the investors who took part in our beer and ale focus groups – this is definitely one of the perks of investment! We have had two events so far; the first at Westerham Brewery and the second at Titsey Brewery – and one more next week at Godstone Brewery – and we’ve had excellent feedback so far!

We have also been recommended Surrey Hills Brewery and if anyone has any other recommendations, please send us as email at the usual EL email address.

Wine

Following on from a great deal of market intelligence and benchmarking within the local area, we have organised two wine focus groups taking place later this month on consecutive days.

We are very excited to be working with experts and independent distributors and our first event will be hosted by Sara Muirhead from Wineprose, together with Liberty Wines. The second will be run by Lynda Mellor from Hennings Wine. Both will help us to curate our wine list and select our house wines.

We have been approached by other wine houses and will be supplementing and refining our choices and information to create a really special wine list. We expect to update our wine list regularly and will welcome ongoing feedback.

Cocktails and Spirits

We have also met with the directors, Zoe and Myles, from Mixology Group, who have over 18 years experience in the industry and host large scale cocktail events in Brighton and London.

They will be creating our house cocktails and training our staff – so watch out for exciting cocktail pop-up events at the Bull after our launch!

Unique Interior Fittings

Amazing progress by the design team including fabric selection, paint and other finishes being decided by Design Twenty Five, builders, Metz Construction and our antiques expert, Lisa Lloyd from the Hand of Glory Antiques/BBC Antiques Roadshow (read more about her, here).

Here is a sneak preview of some of the amazing bargains she’s found to ensure an independent and unique feel of the Bull.

Exterior and building site

You may have noticed that Bull is going blue, well actually it’s a special blue chosen by the design team to complement the interior. The team has been working through the incredibly hot weather and will be starting to tackle the second coat over the next couple of weeks.

We have stripped out all of the old kitchen and will be recycling or selling (reinvesting) some of the surplus items ahead of fitting the brand new kitchen and other fittings.

We have been working closely with The Airedale Group, market leaders in designing, sourcing and fitting industrial kitchens. Not only will the Bull be a much nicer place for the kitchen staff to work but it will be far easier to meet our vision as set out in our business plan. Of course the kitchen will be one of the last things to be installed but will be a tangible reinvestment into the building.

Website and Social Media for the Bull

We are now finalising the brief and next steps to launch a new ‘Bull’ website and brand. We have been researching a number of website design options and intelligent booking systems such as ResDiary, the market leader in the UK for booking systems to make it easy for people to book and learn about exciting events taking place.

We hope to have the website up and running in September, so we can even start taking bookings!
